Pedro Laurenz was a bandoneonist and he conducted the orchestra while playing. He also composed many great tangos such as Mala Junta, Amurado, Como Dos Extraño, etc.
One of the most characteristic of his arrangement is the exquisite variación.
Laurenz played bandoneon along with Pedro Maffia in evolutionary Julio De Caro Orchestra before leaving to start his own. He has strong influence from De Caro as well as Maffia at the same time infused with the new development of tango.
He was not commercially successful at that time since his music was ahead of time but today we often hear his tangos, milonga & valses played at milongas.
Listen to the 3 songs from 3 important periods of Laurenz to get to know the style and its evolution.
Similar repertoire with De Caro and Pugliese but quite edgy. Variación.
This was a revolutionary recording at the time with exquisite bandoneón technique and complex harmony.
More Laurenz instrumental.
