Echagüe sang with D'Arienzo just for 2 years in 1938-39 then went solo with D'Arienzo's pianist Juan Polito but it didn't go well. He joined D'Arienzo again in 1944 and stayed until 1957.  Repertoire from the PHASE I is fast paced and sharp. In US PHASE I is played more often while PHASE II are more popular in Buenos Aires. PHASE II repertoire is darker and more complex. Note the heavy use of lunfardo from 1947 after the ban was lifted.
